Connect to Undernet
Choose between the browser chat and a dedicated IRC client, then use the live server directory for connection details.
The fastest way to connect is the Undernet web chat. It works in a browser and requires no installation.
Using an IRC client
Most desktop and mobile IRC clients ask for:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Network | Undernet |
| Server | irc.undernet.org or a hostname from the server directory |
| Port | Use a port listed for that server |
| Nickname | Any nickname currently available |
| Real name | Public profile text; it does not need to be your legal name |
Only enable TLS when the chosen server explicitly lists a TLS port. Do not guess a secure port or disable certificate checks to force a connection.
After connecting
Try:
- /join #help — join the general help channel
- /list *topic* — search channel names and topics
- /whois nickname — view public information about a connected user
If the connection fails, copy the complete server message before trying another server. The wording usually identifies whether the problem is a timeout, connection limit, G-Line, or client configuration issue.
